Braided Updo for Short Hair // ghd AIR® VINTAGE PINK HAIRDRYER
While I love my short hair, (it's fun, more edgy, doesn't take me very long to do, etc.) every so often I miss being able to do the different styles that come so easily with long hair. Because when your hair is short, there seems to be only one style that works- down. But I wanted to share with you a style that you can do with short (or long) hair! The trick to doing updo's with short hair is "sections". You have to do your hair in small sections to make it work.
For this tutorial, I used my
ghd AIR® VINTAGE PINK HAIRDRYER
. I am a big fan of ghd products and have their flat iron as well. It's quality that you can not only see but you can feel it when you're using them. My hair dries faster, it feels great longer, and it looks healthier. Plus, I love the style of the ghd AIR® VINTAGE PINK HAIRDRYER, it has modern day technology with a bit of a vintage vibe.
To get this look, start by blow drying your freshly washed hair. I like to dry mine in sections as it gives me more volume, shine, and keeps things smooth. I also use a round brush when blowdrying my hair like the
ghd Ceramic Vented Radial Brush
(size 3).
When you get to the top section of your head, start by blow drying it the opposite way in which you part it. When it's almost completely dry, flip the hair over to your normal part, and finish drying.
When your hair is completely dry, rub a couple drops of
between your hands and apply to your hair from the middle to the ends (not the roots). I am really loving this stuff! It makes my hair feel so smooth and healthy for days.
Now for the updo part... Separate your hair into three sections- both sides and the back. Clip the side sections so that you can work with the middle section without the side ones getting in the way. Then take your middle section and pin it into a bun. It's ok if you can't get every piece perfectly in place, it just makes it more of a wispy updo.
Then, starting with one side at a time (keeping the other side clipped out of the way), dutch-french braid (aka an inside-out french braid, which means pulling the strands under each other as you work rather than over) the side pieces from the front (hairline) to the back (nape of the neck), then secure with an elastic. Repeat on the other side.
Take your braids and loosen them up a little to make the braid look thicker. Then pull the ends of your braids as close to the bun as you can, or wrap them around the bun if your hair is long enough, and secure into place with some pins.
Finish with some hairspray, add some delicate makeup (like this

), and you're good to go! You can dress this look up for a night out or dress it down for daytime.
Even though I have short hair, I love knowing that I have options and can do fun styles with my hair. It just takes some playing around and remembering to work in sections. This
