Decorating Our Entryway With Only Antiques
Antiques have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up with a love for history, old films, stories, and homes. I’ve long been someone who strived to shop secondhand, especially in my home decor, and a year and a half ago, I made it my job.
Gentri Lee Antiques (formerly Foxglove Heirlooms) was born out of a desire to do what I love, everyday; to surround myself with the things I deeply appreciate and to educate myself on the stories that antiques hold. It began as a side hustle, featuring smaller items and quickly grew to what it is, today. With the recent launch of my website, I felt it appropriate to share with you a peek at my personal collection.
Antique art has become something I am quite drawn to. But with a small house there weren’t many places to display the pieces I couldn’t let go or acquired from other shops. One day, while pondering this, I found myself staring at the very large and very blank wall that runs along our staircase. I soon realized that this was the perfect opportunity to turn my house into our own art gallery. While I will continue collecting art, it isn’t a process that can be rushed. For now, this space is already looking so much more interesting and elegant.
At the bottom of our stairs you’ll find our entryway. A while back I found this antique cabinet on Facebook Marketplace for a steal, filled it with what I had on hand, and have slowly swapped out items as my personal antique collection has grown. Today it feels like a curiosity museum, adorned with antique books and odds and ends that each have their own story to tell.
While our homes are constantly changing as are our personal design choices, antiques seem to me to stand the test of time. The items I have collected over the years will always be in style because they are what current trends base their inspiration on. However, with antique and vintage items, you also get the quality of old world craftsmanship, often lost on today’s mass-produced products, as well as a way to see and touch history for ourselves.
