The Best Sweet Potato Recipe For Your Holiday Meals

The holiday season is truly the best time of year. While this year may look a little different, that doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to make it feel special and memorable.

There’s no question that one of the most memorable aspects of the holiday season is the traditional food. My family always serves a delicious turkey, homemade rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and one of my favorite dishes—the sweet potatoes.

Growing up, we were one of those families who always served the toasted marshmallows on top of sweet potatoes, but in recent years, I’ve been making my older sister’s sweet potatoes soufflé recipe for our holiday meals, and it has quickly become a favorite! I even served it at a friendsgiving last year and had multiple people ask for the recipe. So, with the holidays fast approaching, I thought it appropriate to share the recipe with you, so that you can add something new and fun to your favorite holiday meals.

Ingredients:

  • 3 c mashed sweet potatoes

  • 3/4 c sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 eggs (beaten)

  • 1/2 c melted butter

  • 1/2 c whole milk

Topping Ingredients:

  • 1 c brown sugar

  • 1/3 c flour

  • 1 c pecans

  • 2/3 c melted butter

Directions:

Bake the sweet potatoes until soft. I like to wrap in tin foil and bake at 350 for about an hour. Once they’ve cooled, peal and mash them. Add the sugar, vanilla, eggs, melted butter, and milk to the sweet potatoes and mix well. Pour into a 9x13” casserole dish and set aside.

In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour, and pecans. Add the melted butter and mix well. Pour topping on top of the sweet potato mixture, and bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes, until the topping has browned.

Serve hot!
